Hi! I'm Shannon Nowak.

Have I always been a business woman? Not at all! I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist in the Chicago area. Ecstatic to land my first job after grad school with Spanish-speaking school children, I moved to Chicago to join the team of dynamic professionals at Bilingual Therapies, Inc. My first caseload was bulging at more than 100 Spanish/English-speaking students. My affection for my students grew as quickly as my frustration over the dearth of appropriate Spanish products available to address their varied communication needs.

Creating therapy products wasn't something for which I formally was trained, nor was the time readily available that was necessary to fill my "bag of tricks" with homemade materials. I began creating these materials as a survival tactic to provide quality therapy services that were linguistically and culturally sensitive to my students.

After several years as a therapist in public schools, I finally chose to work independently and designed a job that is perfect for me. Since creating TrabaLenguas in 2003, I have divided my time between growing this Spanish speech business, teaching piano lessons and staying home with my family!
